Hello Washington Photoshop Group,

Do you have a Photoshop tip, question, events or happenings that relates to Photoshop that you would like to share with the group? If you do, please post under "Share a Photoshop Tip" Message Board including the name of your website(as this is an option) under your Photoshop Tip.

Also, we would like to thank everyone for being a member of this group and if you have any Photoshop questions or would like to present a Photoshop presentation for our upcoming meetups; please let us know by sending an email.

Thank you,

Here is my Photoshop tip for Thursday.

The Magic Wand Tool

When using the Magic Wand Tool on your images, it continues to leave the selected area on. In order to have it deselected, just select the Ctrl + H for Windows users and Command + H for Macintosh users.

For those of you that are needing to make complex selections in Photoshop there is an alternative way using alpha channels. Normally I would use the magic wand tool and touch it up using a quick mask. By selecting the alpha channel with the most contrast in your photo, the time it takes to create a quality mask is reduced significantly. Richard Harrington has a podcast on this topic on Adobe TV. Check it out.....

Using Your Wacom Intuos 3

Use those program keys.. both sides. They save a tremendous amount of time. To get the most out of it.

  • Program the dominant hand side (e.g., right side if you are right handed) with commands that require only tapping, not tapping and dragging. alt-ctl-z for undo, etc.
  • Use the non-dominant side for the dragging commands like change brush size.
  • "Tap/select" the dominant hand buttons with your pen, so you never have to "reach over"
  • keep your non-dominant hand over the "dragging" buttons so you can just hold and drag with very little extra movement.
  • run your pen along the outside endge of the scroll strips (not IN the strip). This will save your nib.

I just got my Wacom4... so I don't have advice on that puppy yet.
